Have a favorite recipe using local Maryland ingredients?
SMADC invites you to submit your original recipes for the Buy Local Challenge Celebration Recipe Book! To be considered, we ask you to include at a minimum two Maryland-grown, Maryland-caught, or Maryland-raised products in your recipes. The more local ingredients, the better!
Why is it important to buy/eat locally grown foods?
Buying local is good for you, good for the local economy, and good for the planet! Buying from local farms helps you get products that are fresher, and have traveled much shorter distances overall from farm to fork. Plus, you're supporting independent family farms which helps strengthen the economy.
The ways you participate in the Buy Local Challenge are as individual as you are. You may take a simple approach and add one or two farm items a day to your meals -- perhaps fresh eggs with breakfast one day, a snack of local fruit or a glass of local wine on another. But if you want to get creative, here are few ideas to get you started.
